Scentwork

NEW BEGINNER CLASS STARTS MONDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER 2023. LIMITED PLACES AVAILABLE SO CONTACT ME TO BOOK YOURS

Scentwork uses your dog's natural ability to use their noses and turns it into a great activity in which you and your dog work as a team to find specific hidden odours. Based on the type of searches carried out by professional detection dogs, Scentwork is great fun, works your dog's brain and helps to build their confidence.

Puppies can start Scentwork at any age, but the minimum age to attend my classes is 5 months (this is because they will be attending with larger dogs which could be overwhelming for very young puppies).

If your dog is anxious or fearful in the presence of other dogs or humans, contact me for a chat as Scentwork may be the ideal activity for them.

I am an accredited Scentwork UK trainer but the skills you and your dog will learn in my classes will enable you to take part in activities and trials offered by a number of different scentwork organisation, including Scentwork UK, if you wish. However, there will never be any pressure to do so.

The Beginners Programme is 12 weeks, each class lasting approximately 50 minutes. The price for this is £160 payable in 2 installments of £80 (week 1 and week 7).

Continuation classes are offered in blocks of 6 weeks at a price of £80.

Beginner classes take place on Monday evenings at St Leonards and St Ives Village Hall, between Ferndown and Ringwood. There are also continuation classes on Saturdays mornings for dogs who are already on odour and confident to search.

Please contact me for further information.

Hoopers                     RETURNING IN 2024

Hoopers is a fast growing dog sport that has all the excitment of agility but with no jumps or sharp turns. Courses have flowing lines and consist of hoops, barrels and short tunnels, and because all the equipment is at ground level it is low impact and suitable for dogs and handlers of almost all ages and fitness levels (minimum age for dogs to join our hoopers classes is 7 months). The sport is focused on the skills of the dog and handler to work together as a team, so it is great for strengthening the bond with your dog.

I am an accredited Canine Hoopers World Instructor and Assessor and with CHW there is no pressure to travel and attend competitions (unless you want to). Instead we have progress awards which are run in the class as when each dog and handler team are ready and assessed by me. There are currently 12 levels to aim for with more to come.

Classes are offered in blocks of six weeks, each class lasting approximately 50 minutes.  The price for 6 weeks is £80.

All classes takes place at Hayters Farm near Holt (just outside Wimborne).

There are no new classes scheduled this year but they will restart in the spring so please register your interest for future classes, or contact me for further information.

Treibball for Fun    RETURNING IN 2024

Do you and your dog have fun learning new skills and working together.  Then our Treibball for Fun classes could be for you.

Treibball, sometimes called Football for Dogs, was developed for dogs to use their natural herding instincts.  But it's not just for the herding breeds; any dog can learn to play, and because it's low impact its suitable for all ages from 8 months.

The idea of the game is to have a goal marked out and a number of large balls (we usually use gym/yoga balls). Your dog works with you to move out beyond the balls and push them towards you into the goal.

Classes are small to ensure individual attention and maximum participation.

Please Note: In order to attend these classes, dogs must have successfully completed an intermediate level of obedience training, and must be able to relax and work in a  space with other dogs/people present.

Classes are offered in blocks of six weeks, each class lasting approximately 50 minutes.  The price for 6 weeks is TBA.

If you think Treibball is for you and your dog, please register your interest for future classes, or contact me for more information.
